- The minister credited the surge to improved collection of ground rents and occupancy fees
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that property owners in Abuja owe over N300bn in unpaid Certificates of Occupancy fees.
Speaking during a media briefing at his official residence in Abuja on Sunday, Mr Wike highlighted his administration’s aggressive revenue drive, which has boosted the FCT’s monthly income from N9bn in August 2023 to N25bn. December 2024 alone saw record revenue of N40bn.
The minister credited the surge to improved collection of ground rents and occupancy fees, stressing that tax compliance is crucial for infrastructure development in the capital.
“It must be from taxes, and when taxes are not paid, how do we get development?” he questioned, while urging residents to support efforts to enhance Abuja’s growth.
