Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has condemned the negative portrayal of the Fulani community in Nigeria, describing it as unwarranted and unfair.
Governor Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made this statement while hosting a delegation from the Kano chapter of Tabital Fulaku International.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the organization in its mission to unite the Fulani community across the nation.
The governor emphasized the Fulani community’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s progress, urging its leaders to continue guiding the younger generation with wisdom and steadfastness.
Gwarzo also expressed concern over the unfavorable narratives often associated with the Fulani, particularly in certain media outlets.
He stated, “The Fulani community has consistently contributed to Nigeria’s development, producing distinguished political leaders, academics, technocrats, legal experts, and security chiefs. Remarkably, a Fulani man currently serves as the National Security Adviser.”
Criticizing the unfair depiction of the Fulani, Gwarzo highlighted their vital role in agriculture and other key sectors. “They are the herders who sustain our economy. Such negative portrayals are unwarranted and do not reflect the reality of their contributions,” he said.
He also called on the Federal Government, especially security agencies, to address the misrepresentation of the Fulani’s history and contributions. Gwarzo urged Fulbe associations nationwide to unite, overcome differences, and work collectively to protect their community’s rights and image.
“You must collaborate with stakeholders to preserve and enhance the Fulani’s image,” he advised, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive and respectful media narrative that acknowledges the Fulani’s critical role in Nigeria’s growth.
Earlier, Alhaji Sanusi Abdullahi Nassarawa, the Ardo of Tabital Fulaku International Nigeria, outlined the association’s objectives during the visit. He explained that their mission focuses on uniting the Fulani, modernizing their trade, and promoting education within the community.
Alhaji Sanusi emphasized the Fulani’s peaceful and development-oriented nature, noting their immense contributions to the nation’s economy and overall growth. The delegation sought the government’s support in restoring the Fulani’s image and fostering unity among their people.
Governor Yusuf’s administration pledged its support to these efforts, highlighting the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by the Fulani community.
