- FCT Minister Nyesom Wike denies health rumors, asserting he is in excellent condition and capable of fulfilling his official duties
- Wike’s media aide calls recent health allegations baseless, emphasizing the minister’s active engagement in community visits and projects
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked recent rumors about his health, emphasizing that he is in excellent condition and fully capable of performing his official duties.
During a media briefing yesterday, Wike refuted reports suggesting he had traveled to London for medical treatment last week. He attributed his ability to carry out his responsibilities to the sound health he enjoys.
“God has blessed me with good health, which gives me the energy to do what I am doing,” Wike stated.
The former Rivers State governor firmly denied allegations of being rushed abroad for emergency medical care.
Lere Olayinka, Wike’s media aide, also addressed the rumors, describing them as baseless and absurd. Olayinka questioned how Wike could have been in London on Thursday night yet returned on Friday to visit several communities in the FCT, including Dape in Life Camp, Gishiri, and Pigba Sama.
On his X platform handle, Olayinka sarcastically dismissed the allegations, stating:
“Some claim the FCT Minister was flown to London for urgent medical treatment on Thursday night, citing aircraft numbers. Yet, the same Wike used ‘witchcraft’ to return on Friday and visit Dape, Gishiri, and Pigba Sama communities.”
Olayinka mocked critics, pointing out that many of them have not had medical check-ups in years but feel the need to question the health of a minister actively executing his duties.
He added humorously, “The Minister will also use ‘witchcraft’ to return to Abuja on Monday to start commissioning road projects.”
Wike’s strong denial comes amid public speculation about his health. However, both he and his team have dismissed these claims, reaffirming his commitment to his role as FCT Minister and his robust health.
