- Technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to visit the sites, inspect the recommended locations
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa, conveyed Tinubu’s approval for the establishment of the institution named after President Tinubu in a letter dated January 16, 2025, and addressed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Alausa informed Wike that the Federal Government had approved the establishment of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, to promote technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training in line with the national policy on education.
The Minister, in the letter he personally signed, requested Wike to suggest the proposed locations for the temporary and permanent sites in Gwarinpa for the takeoff of the institution.
He added that the technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) would be visiting the sites and inspecting the recommended locations, adding that based on the reports to be presented by the team, the approval will be given.
While reacting to the development, the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, commended Tinubu for the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic in Abuja.
In a press statement on Tuesday, signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu effusively thanked the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for the role he played in making the dreams of FCT residents a reality.
He said the approval for the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa wouldn’t have seen the light of day without the relentless effort of Wike, whom he referred to as Mr Projects and his mentor, as a result of the Minister’s untiring efforts to make the FCT the envy of other cities across the world.
Maikalangu said the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa is a dream come true and will add to the progress of FCT residents, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.
The Executive Chairman of AMAC said the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa will greatly add to the joy of the indigenous people of the FCT, whom he said have been enjoying dividends of democracy since the assumption of office of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
Maikalangu recalled that, for the first time in history, an FCT native, Hon. Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, who served as a two-term member representing AMAC/Bwari Constituency in the House of Representatives, was appointed to be one of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) members as the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.
He said: “I am indeed very happy with the magnanimity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Since he assumed office, the indigenous people of FCT have been enjoying dividends of democracy in different forms, something hitherto unheralded about 33 years ago.
“Mr President kick-started things by appointing a son of the soil, Hon. Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, as the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, the first of its kind, something we have not witnessed since the creation of the FCT.
“I am particularly grateful to my mentor, Honourable Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Mr Projects, for making it possible for us to enjoy dividends of democracy under the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We have not had it this good before, as Mr Projects has given a facelift to the FCT and also been a source of joy to my people in AMAC.
“In fact, the latest approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, an area known for education, is a great step and a sign of dividends of democracy in action and in demonstration of FCT inclusivity in democracy.
“We really appreciate Mr President for giving us Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as FCT Minister. He has tirelessly impacted the lives of our people positively and transformed the entire FCT completely. The records are there as he has been carrying out different projects for the development of the FCT. You can see that the roads are freer now because of the road projects he has scattered all over the FCT.
“We at AMAC will continue to give Mr President and the Honourable Minister our massive support and encouragement to succeed further. We are grateful for all the dividends of democracy even as we look forward to more interventions by Mr President and the Honourable Minister, in whom we are well pleased.”
