- Kylian Mbappe revealed a “mentality issue” impacted his early performance at Real Madrid, struggling with just three goals in his first 11 appearances
- After a challenging start, Mbappe bounced back impressively, scoring eight goals in his last 10 appearances across all competitions
Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has revealed that a “mentality issue” hindered his ability to perform at his best earlier this season.
The 26-year-old France captain joined Real Madrid on a free transfer last June after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Mbappe struggled to adapt in the initial months, managing just three goals in his first 11 appearances.
His difficult start included missed penalties in key matches against Liverpool in the Champions League and Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, both of which ended in defeat for Madrid.
“I believe it was a mentality issue, and that was the moment I realised I had to work harder,” Mbappe admitted.
Since the 4 December loss to Bilbao, Mbappe has bounced back impressively, scoring eight goals in his last 10 appearances across all competitions.
