An Islamic cleric, Alhaji Abdulkareem Adedokun, has publicly cursed those responsible for the deaths of his wife and son during a violent cult clash in Owo, Ondo State.

The tragedy occurred on January 6, 2025, when suspected cultists killed five people, including Adedokun’s wife, Temitope Adedokun, and their young son, Abdul Malik.

The victims were reportedly attacked in Temitope’s shop. Among those killed was also Fisayo Oladipupo, a local chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In response to the violence, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew in Owo, effective indefinitely. The curfew, according to the governor, is aimed at curbing further unrest in the ancient town.

In a Facebook post, Alhaji Adedokun expressed profound grief over the loss of his family members. He criticised politicians for allegedly exploiting the tragedy for political purposes, insisting that no member of his family had ever been involved in cultism.

“I stand on the authority of my grandfather, Almustaph Adedeji Jika Anabi, who introduced Islam to Owo and much of Ondo State, to curse the person who killed Temitope Adedokun and Abdul Malik Adedokun,” the cleric declared.

He added, “Every child born into their families will die a mysterious death upon reaching the age of my little Abdul Malik. This curse will remain until they can bring my son back to life.”

The killings have sparked outrage and renewed calls for stronger measures to tackle cult-related violence in the state.
