- Buhari is one of the witnesses that took the stand out testified in the $2.3 billion arbitration case filed by Sunrise Power.
A former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is back in Nigeria after appearing before the International Chamber of Commerce, ICC, in Paris.
Buhari is one of the witnesses that took the stand out testified in the $2.3 billion arbitration case filed by Sunrise Power.
His return to the country was confirmed by a former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad.
Ahmad wrote on X on Friday: “Former President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria after defending the country before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris in connection with the $2.3 billion arbitration case filed by Sunrise Power.”
Peoples Gazette had reported that the former president was compelled by the president Bola Tinubu administration to testify before the French court in the arbitration case alongside other prominent and influential like former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
The report claimed Buhari had been “hauled before the court on Saturday for breaching the terms of a power generation and distribution contract awarded to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.”
It also alleged that the former president was “grilled for hours on Saturday and would continue his testimony on Sunday before the International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration in Paris in case number 26260/SPN/AB/CPB.”
However, the Nigerian government denied the report, saying everything that testified in the case did “so willingly.”
