- Tijani urged Nigerian youths to take the lead in technological innovation
The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent tariff increase for telecommunication companies to ensure the sustainability of the sector, the Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has revealed.
Speaking at the maiden Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN) summit in Ibadan on Saturday, Tijani stated that the tariff adjustment would enable telecom operators to invest in new infrastructure and enhance connectivity.
The event, themed “The Rain of Transformation is upon us: CEOs Arise,” highlighted the role of technology in driving national development.
Tijani urged Nigerian youths to take the lead in technological innovation, assuring them that the government was committed to providing the necessary infrastructure.
“The biggest challenge for governments is individuals. As we invest in infrastructure to drive the progress of technology, we need innovators and entrepreneurs to actually build the technologies,” Tijani said.
The minister commended Dr Olusola Ayoola, founder of RAIN, for his contributions to advancing Nigeria’s ICT sector, noting that such efforts are critical to the nation’s technological growth.
“Without folks like him and the work they are doing in the ICT terrain, it will be difficult for Nigeria to develop technologically. We are grateful that Nigeria has the privilege of a man like Ayoola who is putting Ibadan on the map,” Tijani added.
The tariff hike has sparked discussions among Nigerians, with many awaiting further clarification on how it will impact consumers and the broader economy.
