- He was replaced by Mojisola Meranda, who was Obasa’s deputy.
Former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has insisted that he remains the rightful speaker based on constitutional provisions.
Obasa made this declaration on Saturday in Ikeja GRA during a welcome event organized by supporters from Agege, Alimosho, and Kosofe local government areas.
Recall that Obasa was removed from office by his colleagues over allegations of gross misconduct and financial mismanagement.
Addressing his removal, Obasa argued that the process didn’t follow constitutional procedures.
He stated that he would accept his removal if it was carried out according to constitutional guidelines.
The former speaker rejected allegations of financial misappropriation levelled against him by lawmakers, describing them as “impossible”.
“I am not disturbed; I am not afraid of the developments that happened at the assembly,” Obasa said.
”I believe in removal; there’s no impeachment in the assembly. You cannot impeach (the) speaker. Probably, there’s a mistake from them. You can only remove the speaker.
“And if you must remove (the speaker), you must ensure you follow the rules of the game. I am not afraid to be removed; what else am I looking for if I’ve served as speaker, and member of the house of assembly since 2003 up till date? So, what is the problem?”
Supporters of the impeached speaker of the Lagos state house of assembly, thronged the speakers’ lodge at Joel Ogunnaike street, Ikeja GRA, on Saturday morning.
The loyalists of the ex-speaker wore vests and caps with Obasa’s photo emblazoned on them, while others held aloft placards, with one reading ‘Obasa the undisputable’.
The former speaker made a grand entry, smiling and waving at the supporters.
