  • A prophetess from the church raised the alarm, claiming the incident occurred during her prayer session

A tragic incident unfolded in the Oke-Ijeun area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as an elderly woman, Kehinde Ojo, was lynched by a mob over accusations of witchcraft.

The mob alleged that Ojo transformed from a large bird into a human after reportedly landing on the roof of a local white garment church. A prophetess from the church raised the alarm, claiming the incident occurred during her prayer session.

Disturbing videos on social media show the frail woman lying in a pit, unable to speak, as she was interrogated and subjected to inhumane treatment.

According to Kabir Kehinde, the victim’s son, Ojo, who had vision problems, lost her way while visiting his brother and ended up near the church. He accused the prophetess and her son of torturing his mother to death.

“My mother was not a witch. She was beaten from Monday evening till Tuesday morning, despite pleading her innocence,” Kehinde said, adding that she was still bleeding from her injuries at the time of her burial.

The state police command rescued Ojo and took her to the hospital, but she later died. The prophetess has since been arrested, though police spokesperson Omolola Odutola could not be reached for an update.
