- A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support her newborn son and fund her burial
A 32-year-old Nigerian woman, Temitope Elizabeth Soneye Iwute, tragically passed away during childbirth at Croydon University Hospital, London.
The Nigerians in the UK Community (NIUK) announced her death in a statement on Sunday, launching a GoFundMe campaign to support her newborn son and fund her burial.
Temitope had recently completed a master’s degree (MSc) at York St. John University and was looking forward to her future. “She was a devoted wife, a cherished daughter, and a beloved sister whose joy radiated love,” the NIUK statement read.
Maureen Elor, who is coordinating the fundraiser, described the heartbreaking loss, saying, “Temitope dreamed of motherhood but tragically passed on, leaving behind a precious newborn son.”
The GoFundMe appeal aims to give Temitope a dignified farewell and provide her baby with the love and stability she would have wanted. Donations will ensure the child’s future, including education and a stable home.
“This unimaginable loss has left us heartbroken,” Elor added, calling on Nigerians and the UK community for financial and emotional support during this challenging time.
