- Key grievances included ostracisation, suspension of leaders without due process
Former Osun State governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and his faction, the Omoluabi Progressives, have announced their departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing unresolved internal disputes.
The decision was made during a meeting held on Sunday in Ilesa, where representatives from all 332 wards in Osun ratified the move, according to the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Abosede Oluwaseun.
Key grievances included ostracisation, suspension of leaders without due process, disregard for their faction within the party, and dissatisfaction with the APC’s handling of crises, which they blame for the party’s declining popularity and poor performance in the last governorship election.
Addressing members, Aregbesola commended their commitment to integrity and good governance, expressing optimism about the group’s future. “We have the numbers, strength, and political acumen to provide leadership that will make Osun the toast of its peers,” he said.
The group confirmed plans to join another political party ahead of the 2026 governorship election. Omoluabi Progressives Chairman, Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, urged members to stay united and committed to their shared vision of restoring good governance in Osun.
