- Meanwhile, MAN Director-General Segun Ajayi-Kadir urged Nigeria to address competitiveness issues to fully leverage AGOA
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Export Promotion Group (MANEG) has assured exporters that Nigeria remains in good standing under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) despite changes in U.S. leadership.
MANEG Secretary, Dr. Benedict Obhiosa, noted that a positive assessment during former President Joe Biden’s tenure ensured Nigeria was not flagged for suspension or exclusion.
On AGOA’s future under President Donald Trump, Obhiosa expressed optimism about its extension, saying it benefits the U.S. by allowing imports of goods not produced domestically. He added that Nigerian products like apparel and agricultural goods remain in demand in the U.S.
Obhiosa dismissed fears of restrictions, emphasizing that Trump’s trade policies have historically targeted China rather than African nations. He also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in emerging industries like electric vehicles, where U.S. manufacturers depend on foreign raw materials.
Meanwhile, MAN Director-General Segun Ajayi-Kadir urged Nigeria to address competitiveness issues to fully leverage AGOA, which allows eligible African countries to export goods duty-free to the U.S.
