Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar
  • The ruling party said this in response to Abubakar who said there is a need for judicial reform to “curb judicial recklessness”
  • Morka said Nigerians should not be distracted by the false alarm of desperate politicians whose only goal is to gain support ahead of the 2027 general election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has attributed the disintegration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Atiku Abubakar’s desperation.

In a statement by the APC spokesperson Felix Morka claimed Atiku’s actions led to the dysfunction of opposition parties in Nigeria.

Morka responded to Atiku’s allegations that the APC paid opposition leaders N50 million each.

Atiku also expressed concerns about the judiciary’s involvement in electoral matters, claiming it puts Nigeria’s democracy at risk.

Morka countered that the PDP’s worst elections occurred during Atiku’s tenure as Vice President.

Morka stated, “The former Vice President… has continued to point fingers at the APC for the festering rot in his party.”

Morka also noted that Atiku warned about judicial involvement in electoral matters at a national conference.

Atiku alleged that President Bola Tinubu paid opposition leaders N50 million each to disorganize opposition parties.

Morka reminded Atiku that the PDP’s heavy-handed tactics during his era led to the capture of South-West states.

Morka questioned whether Nigeria’s democracy was truly at risk, given the progress made in ensuring freer and fairer elections.

Morka emphasized that the judiciary has constitutionally defined powers to adjudicate disputes, including electoral disputes.

Morka dismissed Atiku’s allegations of the APC paying opposition leaders as “bogus and laughable.”

Morka concluded that Atiku’s desperation is responsible for the PDP’s disintegration.

Morka urged Atiku to refrain from peddling unsubstantiated allegations, given his standing as an elder statesman.
