The Nigerian Army has apprehended a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Gambo Grema, also known as Gamboi, in Taraba State.
The arrest was made on January 26, 2025, in Mai-Hula town, Bali Local Government Area, as part of ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling Boko Haram and its affiliates.
According to Captain Oni Olubodunde, spokesperson for the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Jalingo, Grema was deployed from the Timbuktu Triangle in Borno State to establish new bases in Taraba State. The suspect has confessed to being part of a syndicate responsible for carrying out abductions for ransom to finance terrorist operations.
Grema also revealed that members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were deployed to Taraba State to carry out other criminal activities. The arrest underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army to neutralizing threats posed by terrorist elements.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, assured that the Army is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens in Taraba State and beyond.
The general urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
