Gunmen suspected to be bandits terrorising Nigeria’s north-west region have struck again in Katsina State.
The bandits attacked the residence of the Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area, Katsina State, Maharazu Dayi.
A police officer, Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal, was shot dead during the Tuesday attack on the home of the council boss.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday.
According to him, the officer was shot and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He also disclosed that three persons had been arrested in connection with the attack and investigation into the incident had begun.
Sadiq said, “Yes, the incident happened yesterday, but our men were mobilised to the scene as the officer was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
“We arrested three suspects in connection with the attack, and further developments will be communicated to you as the investigation is ongoing.”
Although it remains unclear if there were other casualties, security operatives reportedly thwarted the assailants’ attempt to break into the residence.
