- Kano Information Commissioner and State House of Assembly Majority Leader initiate recall process against Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini for alleged anti-party activities
- NNPP stakeholders accuse Madakin Gini of working against party interests and collaborating with opposition after leaving Kwankwasiyya movement
Efforts to recall Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and representative of Dala Federal Constituency, have gained momentum.
Leading the recall campaign are Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yar Gurasa, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, and Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs.
Stakeholders of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Dala Local Government Area have accused Madakin Gini of anti-party activities, alleging that he is working against the party’s interests, including its national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
During a stakeholders’ meeting, the commissioner and the lawmaker representing Dala State Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly vowed to see the recall process through.
This development follows Madakin Gini’s departure from the Kwankwasiyya movement despite his continued membership in the NNPP.
At the meeting, Waiya assured stakeholders that all necessary conditions for the recall would be met and pledged collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a seamless process.
Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yar Gurasa expressed disappointment in Madakin Gini, who, despite benefiting significantly from the Kwankwasiyya movement, is allegedly working with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano.
Efforts to obtain Madakin Gini’s response were unsuccessful, as he did not answer calls.
However, the factional chairman of the NNPP in Kano, Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa, dismissed the recall effort as futile. He asserted that since Madakin Gini was elected under the party’s platform, such an initiative could not proceed without his consent.
Doguwa emphasized that the constitution stipulates a strict recall process, beginning at the constituency level. He argued that Waiya and Chediyar Yar Gurasa could not fulfil these legal requirements and urged party members to disregard the recall threats.
Madakin Gini, previously a staunch Kwankwasiyya movement member, was elected to the House of Representatives from Dala Federal Constituency in 2023 under the NNPP.
However, he later distanced himself from Kwankwaso and the movement, aligning with a faction of the party led by Chief Boniface Aniebonam.
