- The board has launched a manhunt for guests who attended the unauthorized ceremony
In a bold move, the Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a couple for solemnizing their marriage at a local restaurant, Banana Restaurant on Zoo Road, Kano, without parental consent.
Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, Deputy Commander General of Operations, confirmed the arrest, stating that Hisbah personnel raided the restaurant on Wednesday night following a tip-off. The couple’s friends had conducted the marriage ceremony, which Abubakar deemed a “flagrant violation of the Shari’a”.
The board has launched a manhunt for guests who attended the unauthorized ceremony. “We arrested the couple, and we’re trailing the friends of the groom who fled the scene,” Abubakar added.
This incident highlights the Hisbah Board’s commitment to enforcing Shari’a law in Kano State. The board has warned that it will not tolerate violations of Islamic law, and this arrest serves as a testament to that stance.
