The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has expressed concern over a 90-day freeze on foreign aid spending imposed by the U.S. government, which affects HIV/AIDS programmes in Nigeria.
In a statement, NACA Director General Dr. Temitope Ilori noted that Nigeria has the highest HIV burden in West and Central Africa, with its response largely dependent on international funding.

While a waiver for lifesaving medicines was issued on January 28, NACA emphasised the need for increased domestic funding to sustain HIV programmes and reduce reliance on donor aid.
The agency urged stakeholders, including state governments and the private sector, to support efforts to end AIDS by 2030.
