- They hijacked a passing vehicle carrying logs of wood and escaped with him
Gunmen have kidnapped the Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. George Chima, from his residence in Okigwe, Imo State.
According to Vanguard, four armed men stormed Chima’s home while he was hosting lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu. They initially attempted to abduct him using his car, but when it failed to start, they hijacked a passing vehicle carrying logs of wood and escaped with him.
The Abia State Police Command has yet to provide details on the incident. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer said an investigation was underway and promised to respond once more information was available.
Chima, who conducted Abia’s local government elections in November 2024, was reportedly taken under unclear circumstances. His abduction adds to growing security concerns in the region, where kidnapping for ransom has become increasingly common.
