- Ohanaeze Ndigbo also backed the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, in urging Amaechi to retract his divisive comments
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has strongly condemned the controversial remarks made by Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State, against President Bola Tinubu.
Amaechi’s statement, which included calls for the use of “brutal force” to snatch power from President Tinubu in 2027, was described as alarming and divisive by Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
In a statement issued by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General of the group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo decried Amaechi’s comments as a threat to democracy, peace, and civility. Isiguzoro distanced the group from Amaechi’s rhetoric, stressing that the Igbo people would not support any political conspiracy aimed at undermining the legitimacy of an elected president.
“Amaechi’s call for ‘brutal force’ to seize power in 2027 contradicts the principles of democracy and peace that we hold dear,” Isiguzoro stated, condemning Amaechi’s suggestion that politicians should be willing to “steal, maim, and kill” to maintain power.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo also backed the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, in urging Amaechi to retract his divisive comments.
“We support Dr. Matawalle’s call for Mr. Amaechi to cease inciting the populace and retract his inflammatory statements,” Isiguzoro said.
The group reiterated its unwavering support for President Tinubu, emphasizing its commitment to promoting peace, stability, and legitimate leadership in Nigeria.
