  • The APC rebukes Peter Obi’s claim that President Tinubu’s government has more ‘Yahoo boys’ than those arrested for financial crimes
  • APC’s Bala Ibrahim describes Obi’s comments as wild allegations, emphasizing the need for constructive opposition rather than reckless accusations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, over his recent remarks suggesting President Bola Tinubu’s administration harbours more ‘Yahoo boys’ than those arrested for financial crimes.

Obi made the statement during his keynote address at the fourth graduation ceremony of Nexford University, where he lamented Nigeria’s vulnerability to corrupt officials benefiting from the system.

His comments sparked controversy, with the APC accusing him of engaging in reckless opposition politics.

In an interview with Saturday PUNCH, APC’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, dismissed Obi’s comments as “wild and unsubstantiated allegations,” arguing that such claims undermine the opposition’s credibility.

“You cannot just make wild allegations or accusations without substantiation. If he says there is ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ in government, let him point to specific acts that prove that claim,” Ibrahim stated.

He further criticized Obi’s approach to opposition, stating, “Opposition should checkmate government policies constructively. But when the opposition becomes reckless and clueless in accusations, it loses sight of its purpose. One finds themselves in the opposition due to a lack of preparation or failure to win.”

Obi, known for his outspoken stance on corruption and governance, has frequently clashed with the ruling party. However, his latest remarks appear to have struck a nerve, drawing sharp rebuke from APC loyalists who insist that criticism should be fact-based rather than inflammatory.
