PDP’s Ship in Storm, Risks Becoming Rudderless – Bode George

  • Bode George warns the PDP is at risk of becoming rudderless if it doesn’t address its internal crisis, urging unity and fairness
  • George supports the PDP BoT’s decision to recognize Sunday Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary, based on the Court of Appeal ruling

Bode George, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees, has warned that the party risks becoming rudderless if it fails to address its internal crisis.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, George expressed concern over the party’s current trajectory but remained hopeful that experienced elders within the party could resolve the ongoing turmoil.

“I appeal to everybody as an elder and one of those elected at the very first elective convention of the party in December 1999. This is not the time to use the party’s structure to push people aside.

No, I will not agree. When you examine the list of those overseeing disciplinary actions, we must be cautious. They say when you come to equity, you must come with clean hands,” George stated.

He emphasized the need for unity and fairness, urging party members to avoid actions that could destabilize the PDP further.

“There are still elders in the party who can step in and resolve this crisis. We have cleared the first hurdle. Now, we must ensure justice, fairness, and equity. I urge everyone not to let the ship sink.

The party is already in a storm, and if we are not careful, it will become rudderless. A rudderless ship will inevitably go down,” he warned.

However, George supported the PDP BoT’s decision to recognize Sunday Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary of the party. He stated that his stance was based on the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which affirmed Ude-Okoye’s position.

“The decision was clear, and I fully support it. What else should the elders do? The report confirmed that there was no other Court of Appeal ruling apart from the one in favor of Okoye,” he said.

He added that if Samuel Anyanwu chose to challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court and the decision was overturned, the party would respect the final judgment.

“If Anyanwu goes to the Supreme Court and they dismiss the Court of Appeal’s decision, we will abide by that ruling,” George concluded.
