Mitoma Goal Sends Chelsea Crashing Out of FA Cup

  • Chelsea took an early lead via an own goal but Brighton responded with goals from Rutter and Mitoma to win 2-1 and advance
  • Fulham, with Alex Iwobi, advanced, while Southampton, with Aribo and Onuachu, lost; Newcastle also progressed in the FA Cup

Chelsea’s FA Cup journey ended in disappointment as Brighton came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory in their fourth-round clash on Saturday night.

The Blues took an early lead in the fifth minute after an own goal by Bart Verbruggen. However, Brighton responded quickly with a 12th-minute equalizer from Georginio Rutter before Kaoru Mitoma sealed their progression with a goal in the 57th minute.

Earlier, Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi played a crucial role in Fulham’s 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic, helping them advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, Southampton’s Nigerian duo, Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu, were in action as their team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Burnley.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United edged past Birmingham City with a 3-2 win to book their place in the next round.
