- The two suspects were arrested near the crime scene
The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of 14-year-old Faith Moses in Emure Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, identifying the suspects as Bashir Alaba (31) and Mohammad Jamiu (36). According to the police, the suspects had initially attempted to rape the teenager but resorted to killing her when she resisted.
“The two suspects were arrested near the crime scene with two cutlasses suspected to have been used in the attack. Investigation is ongoing,” Abutu stated.
The incident occurred on February 9, 2025, when Faith was sent to check a trap set by her father, Joshua Moses, on their farm along Okeseri Road. She was accompanied by her five-year-old brother, Testimony Moses.
According to the boy, who managed to escape, the attackers accosted them, threatening to either sexually assault Faith or kill her. When she resisted, they slit her throat and severed her right hand.
Faith’s mother, Toyin Moses, reported the matter to the police, prompting officers from the Emure Division to launch an immediate operation. The suspects were arrested near the crime scene.
The police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged accordingly.
