The Kwara State Police Command has debunked rumors of armed robbery attacks on Ilorin-Omu-Aran road on Sunday.
A statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, clarified that no armed robbery occurred on the road.
The police explained that a breakdown of a vehicle led to a misunderstanding between the vehicle’s owner and some youths demanding compensation.
“The Kwara State Police Command is aware of false reports circulating, aimed at discrediting the command’s efforts in combating crime,” the statement said.
On February 9, 2025, the DPO Oke-Onigbin received a distress call reporting an alleged armed robbery.
A team was deployed, and upon arrival, it was discovered that the incident was a misunderstanding between the vehicle owner and youths demanding “owo ilè” (land money).
The youths fled the scene upon sighting police operatives, and the area remained calm.
The police urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and assured their commitment to securing lives and properties.
In case of emergencies, people can call the Kwara police command hotline.
The police warned against spreading false information, emphasizing their dedication to maintaining law and order.
