Hundreds of former Kano State House of Assembly members, under the Kano Ex-legislators Forum, have commended the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, for his exceptional contributions to governance and development.
The ex-lawmakers, representing the state’s three senatorial districts, praised Senator Barau for his interventions in key sectors such as health, education, agriculture, the economy, power, and transportation. They described him as a “Messiah” whose initiatives are transforming lives in Kano State and the North West region.
During a courtesy visit to the National Assembly in Abuja, Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Lajawa, speaking on behalf of the forum, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the North West Development Commission (NWDC) through a bill sponsored by Senator Barau.
Lajawa, a former representative of Wudil State Constituency (2003-2007), highlighted the senator’s agricultural initiative—the Barau Initiative for Agricultural Revolution in North West (BIARN)—which provides loans to 558 young farmers across 186 local government areas in partnership with a national financial institution.
“You are the Messiah, not only to our state but to the North. As grassroots politicians, we hear directly from the people, and they are happy with you. They are praying for your success,” Lajawa said in a statement issued by Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
Other forum members, including Hon. Saidu Garba Zugachi (Gabasawa – 1999 to 2007) and Comrade Alhasan Uba Idris (Dala – 2003 to 2007), echoed similar sentiments, noting that Senator Barau’s performance in the Senate since 2015 has been remarkable.
In response, Senator Barau expressed gratitude for the support and reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the challenges facing Kano State and the country.
“Parliamentarians are grassroots people, and they understand what is best for our people. Our focus remains on the progress of our state and nation, and we will continue to work toward that goal,” he assured.
