Governor Adeleke accused opposition parties of plotting attacks to disrupt the Osun local government elections and cause chaos

Adeleke affirmed a court judgment nullified the 2022 local government election, and security has been directed to maintain order
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused opposition elements of planning to attack local government secretariats, PDP leaders, and top government officials ahead of the February 22 local government elections.
In a statement on Thursday, Adeleke’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, claimed that the plot aimed to disrupt the elections and create chaos, potentially leading to a state of emergency.
He emphasized that Osun remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria and warned that anyone involved in such acts would face the full wrath of the law.
He criticized opposition politicians for fabricating fake court rulings, spreading false news, and manipulating narratives instead of preparing for the elections.
“There is a subsisting court judgment secured by the APP that nullified the 2022 local government election. That ruling remains valid in law and in reality,” he stated.
He clarified that Tuesday’s Court of Appeal ruling in Akure was about PDP’s court filings and did not affect the existing judgment that removed APC council chairmen and councilors.
Adeleke assured the public that security agencies had been directed to maintain peace and arrest troublemakers.
“There is no legal basis for any attempt to take over the local government system in Osun. Elections are scheduled for February 22,” he said.
He warned against any attempts to disrupt the state’s peace and vowed to use all available resources to maintain order.
“I urge residents to continue their daily activities without fear. The government is in control and committed to ensuring safety from anti-democratic elements,” he concluded.
