Bello claimed Lawal died after gasping for breath upon his return with food, leading him to dispose of her body at a refuse dump
Abdulrahman Bello, a 29-year-old self-proclaimed Islamic cleric, has spoken out about the brutal murder of Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education.
In a video reportedly recorded at a police station in Kwara State, Bello denied killing Lawal for ritual purposes but admitted to dismembering her body and disposing of it in a dustbin.
He claimed that the deceased was his girlfriend and that they met on Facebook.
Recounting the events while being questioned by police officers in the video, Bello, who was kneeling and wearing a gold-coloured “jalabiya,” described himself as a victim of circumstance.
He stated that the incident began when Lawal visited his home in the Olunlade area of Ilorin after attending an event.
“She said she was hungry, so I went to buy food. When I returned, I found her gasping for breath,” he explained.
According to him, she suddenly passed out and died. Out of panic, he decided to dismember her body and dispose of it at a public refuse dump.
“I was confused and didn’t know what to do then. This is my first time, I have never done anything like this before,” he added.
Speaking in Yoruba, Bello identified himself as an ‘alfa’ (Muslim cleric) and mentioned that he was about to gain admission into Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.
