- James killed the twin children, Moses Chris and Marvelous Chris who were four years of age, on Tuesday before proceeding to bury them in a shallow grave
In Abia State, a dark cloud of sorrow and sadness has enveloped a community after a woman and her twin children were murdered.
The victims were allegedly killed by a mentally challenged man in Ndagbo Afara, Umuahia North LGA of the south-east State.
The suspect, one Ibekwe Augustine James, is said to be the brother of the slain woman, Chinomso Nwabali James.
James also reportedly killed the twin children, Moses Chris and Marvelous Chris who were four years of age, on Tuesday before proceeding to bury them in a shallow grave.
The incident has sparked fear and apprehension
among residents as concern mounts that the fleeing suspect may return and attack them.
According to Abia State Police Command, it was reported at the Central Police Station Umuahia that the suspect was discovered dragging the lifeless body of his sister in the family compound but abandoned it when his abominable acts were discovered by a family member, before fleeing to an unknown place.
But, despite the guarantee by the Police Spokesperson that all efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspect, some of the residents around the building where the incident happened have expressed fear that the mentally unstable man would return and strike again.
The Ndagbo Afara residents who spoke under anonymity, appealed to the State government and the Police to ensure that the suspect is apprehended.
Speaking on the situation, the Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka restated the need for families to take their relations confirmed to be suffering from mental problems to psychiatric homes for treatment and rehabilitation rather than keeping them in their homes.
She, however, promised that efforts were on to nab the fleeing suspect.
