- Abubakar resisted the assailants with a cutlass, compelling them to flee
In the early hours of Thursday, 20 February, a kidnapping attempt was foiled in Sabon Gari Lassa, located in Borno State’s Askira Uba Local Government Area.
The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. when four armed men broke into the residence of Mohammed Abubakar, intending to abduct him. Displaying remarkable courage, Abubakar resisted the assailants with a cutlass, compelling them to flee.
At approximately 6:00 a.m., Abubakar alerted authorities, prompting a swift response from a combined team of police officers and local vigilantes.
The security operatives tracked the suspects’ footprints to a nearby hideout, leading to the arrest of three individuals: Salisu Hussain, Buhari Hussaini, and Umar Bello, all residents of Gajali Village in Askira Uba LGA. A locally made pistol was recovered from the suspects.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accomplice. Investigations are also underway to determine if the suspects have connections to other criminal activities in the region.
The Borno State Police Command has commended the prompt action of the security operatives and has urged residents to remain vigilant.
