A Nigerian Army non-commissioned officer, Master Warrant Officer Abdulfatai Odutola, has been killed by his abductors following a delay in the payment of a 20 million naira ransom.
Odutola was kidnapped on 15 February 2025 while travelling along the Abuja-Jos highway en route to Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.
According to an internal military memo, his captors initially demanded the ransom for his release.
A subsequent memo revealed that Odutola’s body was discovered by police in a forest near Jos after the ransom payment deadline had passed.
His vehicle was also recovered at the scene.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly prevalent.
