The Ogun state government has launched a recruitment exercise for the newly established ‘Ogun State Gateway International Airport’.

This was outlined in an internal circular addressed to key government officials and dated 19 February 19, 2025.

The letter, which lists 14 positions to be filled — including medical personnel, drivers, human resources, operations, and ground handlers — demonstrates the government’s commitment to making the airport operational before the end of 2025.

The state governor, Dapo Abiodun, began construction of the airport in the Ikenne Local Government Area in 2021. The facility is designed to serve as an alternative to Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

Last year, the governor repeatedly pledged to complete and inaugurate the airport, aiming to establish it as an economic hub capable of generating over 25,000 job opportunities.

In the circular, signed by Permanent Secretary Oladipupo Ogunfowora on behalf of the Head of Service, the government stressed that competence would be a key criterion for selection.

The circular states: “I wish to inform you that the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the staffing of the Gateway International Airport with competent, self-motivated, and high-quality personnel from within the state civil service to support the operations, maintenance, and management of the airport.

“Interested candidates are directed to submit their applications through the normal departmental channel to their agencies for onward transmission to the Bureau of Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, on or before Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

“All applications must be accompanied by copies of relevant documents, including credentials, curriculum vitae (CV), letter of appointment, letter of confirmation of appointment, letter of last promotion, and any other relevant documents. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an oral interview.”
