The incident happened on Saturday in the Upper Mission Extension area of Benin City.
The police confirmed the incident in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, who said
He explained that when the “operatives of the Aduwawa Division of the Command arrived at the scene, they met the lifeless body of the woman lying in the pool of her own blood with a cut on her head.
“It took serious efforts by the police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation.”
He said the police swiftly rushed the victim to the hospital where the specialists confirmed her dead.
The police said investigations into the death of the woman have commenced in earnest, promising that whoever is “found culpable would be dealt with according to the law”.
