- The governor had earlier attributed his emergence to divine providence and not human effort.
Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been sworn in as the governor of Ondo State, officially starting his initial full term after succeeding Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away in 2023.
The event took place on Monday at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the state’s capital, exactly two months after he secured victory under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Aiyedatiwa was officially sworn in slightly after his deputy, Olayide Adelami, with the ceremony taking place at approximately 12:59 pm in the afternoon.
Following that, the governor moved around the venue in an uncovered vehicle, joyfully acknowledging the enthusiastic cheers from his excited supporters.
Aiyedatiwa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the Ondo state governorship election on November 17, 2024.
He polled 366,781 votes to defeat his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 117,845 votes.
Nejo Adeyemi, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), came a distant third with 4,138 votes.
Aiyedatiwa, formerly the deputy governor, was first sworn in as Ondo state governor on December 23, 2023, following the death of his predecessor, Akeredolu.
