- The suspect remains in the custody of the state vigilante group
A tricycle driver has been arrested by the Abia State Vigilante for allegedly stealing aluminium roofing sheets at the Modern Ceramics factory in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Onyedikachi Daniel from Ahiazu Mbaise in Imo State, was reportedly caught in the early hours of Wednesday attempting to steal roofing sheets from the ceramics factory along Aba Road.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Security, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbuehi (rtd), the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted to a similar offence last year, when he sold stolen roofing sheets to a scrap buyer in Umuahia.
The Whistler reported that Daniel said, “I was caught early this morning at Modern Ceramics on Aba Road. I came here to take some aluminium roofs, and I saw two other people there when I arrived, but they ran away later. This is my second time going there. The first time was last year, and I sold the aluminium sheets I was able to gather.”
The suspect remains in the custody of the state vigilante group, with plans underway to transfer him to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation.
The arrest highlights ongoing security efforts in Abia State to curb theft and criminal activities.
