- The development comes moments after incumbent speaker Mojisola Meranda’s security detail was withdrawn.
Supporters of Mudashiru Obasa, the removed speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, have taken over the entrance of the legislative building.
This incident occurred following the arrival of the impeached speaker at the assembly complex on Thursday afternoon, escorted by numerous security personnel.
A video uploaded on Facebook showed the dismissed speaker’s supporters carrying banners while chanting in his support at the assembly complex.
Obasa was removed as speaker on January 13 while he was overseas, leading to Mojisola Meranda being quickly appointed as the new speaker.
When he returned on January 25, his loyalists welcomed him with an elaborate and enthusiastic reception.
He has since disputed his impeachment’s validity, insisting that he remains the legitimate speaker of the legislative house.
Rumours emerged suggesting that Meranda was under mounting pressure to vacate her position as the speaker.
Meanwhile, security personnel assigned to Meranda, speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, have reportedly been withdrawn.
