- He stated that the board has taken all the necessary steps to resolve the problem amicably but to no avail
Workers of the Kano State Water Board have embarked on an indefinite industrial action due to unresolved grievances.
The head of the staff union, Engineer Najib Sule, said the strike became imperative following the government inability to address their demands.
He stated that the board has taken all the necessary steps to resolve the problem amicably but to no avail.
Before commencing the strike, the workers gathered for prayers and Alqunuti, seeking divine intervention over their difficult situation.
The workers stated that they went on strike because the state government has failed to implement the new minimum wage of ₦71,000 in the board, while their colleagues in other ministries and parastatals are already enjoying it as approved by the Governor of Kano State.
In addition to the unpaid minimum wage, they also claimed that the government has not settled other outstanding entitlements owed them.
Efforts to get a response from the Managing Director of the Kano State Water Board were unsuccessful.
