Obasa reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with security agencies while seeking an amicable resolution
Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has publicly apologized to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force following the February 17, 2025, incident at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
In a statement signed on Thursday, February 27, Obasa described the assault on security operatives as deeply regrettable.
“On behalf of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I sincerely apologize to the security agencies for the embarrassment caused, particularly the assault on DSS operatives, which has been widely circulated in videos.
“We appreciate and value your work. We rely on you to protect lives and property in and around the Assembly and Lagos State. The Assembly requested additional support and your presence on that particular day.
“This has been our standard practice in the past. Unfortunately, security operatives of the DSS were assaulted within the hallowed chambers of our Assembly. I hereby offer an unreserved apology on behalf of the entire Assembly.
“The Lagos Assembly and security agencies have always maintained a cordial and respectful relationship, and we have consistently relied on you to help maintain law and order.
We hope this incident does not harm the strong partnership we have built over the years.
“We also plead on behalf of those charged to court and look forward to an amicable resolution of this matter, ensuring our continued collaboration for the peace of our dear state.”
The apology follows Obasa’s return to the Assembly complex earlier today, where he declared that he has resumed his position as Speaker.
Meanwhile, three Assembly staff members charged with assaulting DSS operatives have been granted bail.
