  • Ozigbo had stated in his resignation letter that he informed Obi of his decision as a “mark of deep respect.”
  • The ex-LP member raised concerns about the party’s sustainability, saying he does not believe it has a strong future.

Valentine Ozigbo has revealed that Peter Obi, who was the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, will no longer participate in any election under LP.

Ozigbo, a dedicated Obi supporter, left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022 and moved to LP in order to back Obi’s ambition for the presidency.

On February 19, Ozigbo, who also has plans to run for Anambra governor, left LP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his “unwavering commitment” to the state’s progress.

In his resignation letter, the former CEO of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria stated that he informed Obi about his decision as a “mark of deep respect” for his leadership.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Ozigbo mentioned that he had personally witnessed several discussions regarding political party coalitions.

The ex-LP leader also raised concerns about the party’s long-term viability, stressing that he does not believe it has a strong future ahead.

“I don’t see a future in the labour party, I’m happy to live with it, and I would like to be proven wrong,” Ozigbo stated.

“Peter Obi that we are talking about also left NPP to APGA to PDP to Labour Party and I can almost guarantee that if he wishes to run for election, it’s not going to be under Labour Party. I can almost guarantee that.”

“I am not his spokesperson, maybe I am wrong, but I am a witness to a lot of discussions around coalitions and which I can tell you my own optimism about that.”

Thinking back to his period in PDP, Ozigbo recalled a “fair and transparent” primary election that took place under the leadership of Uche Secondus.

However, he pointed out that after the party’s leadership changed, its internal structure shifted, which negatively affected its overall performance.

Secondus served as the national chairman of the PDP’s national working committee (NWC) from December 10, 2017, up until his suspension took place in 2021.
