- Governor Otti welcomed Hon. Dennis and his supporters
The Member representing Isialangwa South State Constituency, Hon. Rowland Chinwendu Dennis, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling Labour Party (LP), taking along hundreds of stakeholders, ward chairmen, and party loyalists.
The defection was marked by a grand reception on Friday at the Group Primary School, Umuoba Isialangwa South LGA, attended by Governor Alex Otti, top government officials, traditional rulers, and party stakeholders.
Governor Otti welcomed Hon. Dennis and his supporters, emphasizing that the Labour Party upholds inclusivity and offers equal opportunities to all members.
“In the Labour Party, we do not discriminate. If you’re joining today, you will be given the same status as those who have been with us for a long time. We welcome you wholeheartedly,” he said.
Hon. Dennis cited Governor Otti’s developmental strides—including road construction across all 17 LGAs, improvements in healthcare, and prompt salary and pension payments—as his motivation for joining the LP.
“The Governor is fixing roads, improving healthcare, and ensuring prompt payment of pensioners and workers. I am impressed, and that is why I am here with my people,” he stated.
The event was attended by other political figures, including Senator Darlington Nwokocha and Hon. Ginger Onwusoibe, who commended Governor Otti for embracing opposition members.
The highlight of the event was the official presentation of the Labour Party flag to Hon. Dennis and his supporters, symbolizing their full integration into the party.
Governor Otti dismissed speculations that the defection was linked to the 2027 elections, insisting that his focus remains on governance.
“I cannot be blackmailed with the 2027 elections. I am focused on serving the people who gave me their mandate,” he said.
