Argentina and Inter Miami star Lionel Messi revealed that he was unhappy during his two-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The 37-year-old forward joined PSG in 2021 after spending 21 years at Barcelona. In 2023, he moved to Inter Miami in the United States.
During his time in Paris, Messi scored 32 goals and provided 35 assists in 76 appearances. He also helped Argentina secure the World Cup title while playing for PSG.
In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner shared his struggles. He said, “Joining Inter Miami was a great opportunity. But in my last years in Paris, I had to make decisions quickly. Leaving Barcelona was difficult, and my two years at PSG were not enjoyable.”
Messi admitted that he was unhappy daily, both in training and matches. He found it hard to adapt to the new environment. He also expressed that Inter Miami felt like the right move, as the club is still growing and developing.
Before his exit, Messi’s relationship with PSG fans deteriorated. He noted that a significant number of supporters began treating him differently.
Since joining Inter Miami, Messi has focused on helping the club and Major League Soccer (MLS) grow. In 42 appearances, he has contributed 36 goals and 20 assists.
