- The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists for the murder of a young man, Aleruchi Samuel, also known as “Bigi,” in Ogoloma Street, off Chinda, Mile 4, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects—allegedly loyal to a Deywell cult leader—attempted to forcibly take Bigi to their “barrack” over a disputed land issue. The victim, who was in his mid-20s, was erecting a fence on the disputed land when they attacked him.
Sources revealed that Bigi resisted their attempt to abduct him, prompting one of the suspects to stab him in the neck. He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, community youths, angered by the killing, went on a rampage before police intervened to restore order.
Confirming the incident, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated, “It has to do with a disputed land where they were erecting a fence. A woman went to call unknown persons who stabbed the man on his neck.”
She further disclosed that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt, for discreet investigation,” she added.
