  • The party accused the APC-led government of demolishing the property before court proceedings were completed, calling it an illegal act.
  • It also condemned the demolition as an attack on opposition figures, warning that such actions could increase political tensions in Borno State.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the destruction of a building owned by Attom Magira, a New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader in Borno State.

In a statement on Saturday, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Borno, Amos Adziba, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of misusing state agencies.

“The demolition of Hon. Attom Magira’s property is nothing short of a wicked and cowardly act, driven by political vendetta,” Adziba said.

“It is a direct attempt by the APC to intimidate opposition voices and silence dissent in Borno State and the country at large.”

He dismissed the reasons given by the Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) and the state government, calling them misleading, unfounded, and inconsistent.

“The APC-led government could not even wait for the court process to be completed, simply because they know they are pursuing an illegal agenda,” the PDP spokesperson stated.

“This ferocious invasion, the harassment of citizens, and the demolition of private property cannot be justified by any reasonable means.”

The PDP also accused the state government of carrying out the demolition in secrecy, which, according to them, reflects bad intentions.

“The timing of this operation, carried out in the dead of night and under the cover of darkness, exposes the state government’s desperation and the unwholesome nature of its actions,” Adziba added.

The party further warned that such aggressive actions against opposition members were dangerous and could increase tensions within the state.

“The APC and the Borno State government should desist from stretching the patience of the people. Actions like these are already causing tension that could trigger serious unrest,” the statement read.

The PDP expressed its full support for Magira and urged the ruling party to refrain from using undemocratic tactics of suppression and harassment.

The party warned the government against any further attempts to seize Magira’s property, cautioning that “the people of Borno will resist any attempt to use state power for political victimization.”
