Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sadness over the death of former presidential spokesman, Dr. Doyin Okupe, calling it a “personal loss.”
In a Friday statement issued by his media aide, Lekan Adeniran, Abiodun honoured Okupe’s impact on Nigeria’s politics, describing him as a devoted statesman and democracy advocate.
Okupe’s passing follows shortly after the death of the Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo, further deepening the atmosphere of mourning.
The governor praised Okupe’s perseverance under military rule, his ability to bridge political differences, and his outstanding expertise in media and political communications.
Abiodun also recognised Okupe’s political transitions from the NRC to the PDP, Accord Party, and Labour Party, while underscoring his steadfast commitment to national development.
Calling Okupe an amiable and principled individual, the governor highlighted his humility, political respectfulness, and significant influence in shaping national political discourse.
He commended Okupe’s remarkable writing and public speaking abilities, stating that they cemented his lasting impact on Nigerian political communication.
Okupe’s demise signifies the departure of an important voice in Nigeria’s political landscape, the governor concluded.
