At least thirteen people have lost their lives in a deadly attack on Birnin Dede village in Arewa local government area of Kebbi State.

Eight villages were also set on fire near Birnin Dede during the violent invasive on Sunday, according to reports.

The attack, which was reportedly carried out by suspected Lakurawa terrorists, was in retaliation for the killing of their leader, Maigemu, by a combined security force in Kebbi.

The Chairman of Arewa LGA, Sani Aliyu, confirmed the attack to newsmen.

It could be recalled that combined security forces, with the support of Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, recently killed the group’s kingpin, Maigemu, as part of ongoing efforts to curb the activities of armed groups in the North-West state.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, is yet to issue a statement on the matter.
