- According to El-Rufai, he decided to side with Obasanjo when he had issues with Atiku during their presidency because he and other ministers working for the former president felt he was right.
Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has opened up on his past relationship with Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ex-presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
This is even as he denied claims that he betrayed Atiku, a former vice president, when he served as minister under former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.
The former governor who recently dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, for SDP, disclosed this while speaking with BBC Hausa Service.
According to El-Rufai, he decided to side with Obasanjo when he had issues with Atiku during their presidency because he and other ministers working for the former president felt he was right.
“When Obasanjo and Atiku were having issues, those of us working with Obasanjo looked at the issues between them and said Obasanjo was more right.
“It was not about north and south; Obasanjo was right. Atiku and I are now together, and if I betrayed him why are we together now.”
He also called on opposition leaders like Atiku, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Rivers ex-governor Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola to join the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
“What I want and pray for is for all opposition leaders— Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola— to join the SDP.”
