- The lawmakers claimed in the notice that the action was in line with the Nigerian Constitution
The Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday served a notice of gross misconduct allegation on the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule said the notice that the action was in line with the Nigerian Constitution.
“In compliance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and other extant laws, we, the undersigned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, hereby forward to you a Notice of Gross Misconduct by the Deputy Governor of Rivers State in the performance of the functions of her office,” the notice read.
In addition, the lawmakers called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tammy Danagogo, over alleged extra-budgetary spending.
As part of their decision, the Assembly resolved to publish the misconduct allegations against Governor Fubara and Prof. Odu in three national newspapers.
The lawmakers, who are allies of former governor Nyesom Wike, have been at daggers drawn with Governor Fubara following his assumption into office in 2023.
Last week, they blocked his attempt to present the state’s 2025 budget, further escalating political tensions in the state.
Although the assembly earlier denied any move to impeach Fubara, there have been speculations about plots to remove the governor.
