Oduduwa varsity holds convocation on Friday as founder, Prince Adedoyin remains in police custody

The Vice-Chancellor of Oduduwa University Ipetumodu, Ile-Ife has disclosed that a total of 992 graduands are set to graduate during the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremonies on Friday.

Recall that Police in Osun have arrested the owner of Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Dr. Rahman Adegoke Adedoyin over alleged killing of a student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Mr Timothy Adegoke.

As at the time of reportage, the founder and proprietor of Oduduwa University Ipetumodu, Ile-Ife, Prince Rahman Adedoyin is still in police custody over alleged killing of Timothy Adegoke.

The convocation ceremonies were announced on Thursday at a news conference in the institution by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Segun Aribisala.

“The combination of the two sets as you may have guessed was conditioned by the COVID-19 pandemic which affected all aspects of life and global economy in 2020.

“Thereby preventing many Institutions, including ours, from holding the yearly convocation ceremonies,” the vice- chancellor said.

He disclosed that for the graduating set of 2020, 10 came out with First Class, 100 came out with Second Class Upper, 251 came out with Second Class Lower and a total of 25 graduands fell into Third Class category.

The vice-chancellor stated further that for the 2021 graduating set; 28 came out with First Class, 281 came out with Second Class Upper while 266 came out with Second Class Lower and 31 came out Third Class category.

According to him, the best graduating student for the 2020 set is Adamu Yusuf from the Department of Computer Science with CGPA of 4.97.

Aribisala added that the best graduating student for 2021 set was Akinola Abimbola Oluwadoyinsola from the Department of Microbiology, with CGPA of 4.89.

Aribisala attributed the success so far recorded by the institution to the Almighty God and the sole financier of the institution, Dr. Rahman Adegoke Adedoyin, Chancellor of the University.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the ceremonies, comprising award of postgraduate degrees, first degrees, conferment of honorary degree and presentation of prizes, would hold at the Senate Building of the institution.
