  • Mr Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, stated this at a news conference in Abuja.
  • Ologunagba was reacting to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s address to Nigerians on fuel subsidy removal on Monday.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) does not have any plans to revive the moribund local refineries.

The opposition party noted that the ruling party does not intend to ensure domestic crude oil refining as a panacea to the crippling Nigeria’s energy sector.

Mr Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, stated this at a news conference in Abuja.

Ologunagba was reacting to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s address to Nigerians on fuel subsidy removal on Monday.

He accused APC of sheer insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians amid the widespread hardship that plagues the country.

“It’s instructive to observe from the speech, that the APC has no plan to stimulate domestic crude refining as an answer to the crippling energy and manufacturing deficits in the country.

“It also shows APC’s insensitivity to the suffering of Nigerians and lackadaisical approach to serious issues of governance. It’s like the case of you take it or leave it,” he said.

Within Nigeria reports that prices of goods and services have soared since the removal of fuel subsidy by the present administration.

President Bola Tinubu in his nationwide broadcast on Tuesday had called for patience among Nigerians, saying that his government is working assiduously to bring reprieve to them.

He stated that he was aware that the removal of fuel subsidies has increased the cost of living in Nigeria.

The president said that he wished there were other options for turning around the country’s economy without eliminating fuel subsidies, but there were none.

Tinubu noted that he did not intend to hurt the masses and that steps were being taken to alleviate their suffering.
